HPC Training Course for Country-Specific Analysis

March 22-23, 2025

Tokyo Japan

This is a two-day training course designed to analyze political affairs of a country using UN-oriented analytical tools for conflict analysis. The course is intended for practitioners who wish to enhance their skills in analyzing political dynamics.

HPC, led by Prof. Hideaki Shinoda, has nearly 20 years of experience in conducting training courses on political analysis in collaboration with UN Political Affairs specialists. Dr. Sumie Nakaya has extensive experience working within the UN Secretariat as officer of the Department of Peace Operations, where she engaged in numerous analytical tasks for many years. While she remains independent of the UN, she continues to provide valuable insights. Leveraging these resources, HPC offers a specialized training program focused on professional approaches to political analysis.

A key characteristic of the UN’s approach to political analysis is its emphasis on country-specific assessments, a feature also found in academic theories of Conflict Resolution. Given the increasing overlap between international and intra-state conflicts in today’s world, it is crucial to consider regional and global factors when analyzing specific political conflicts. This training course will incorporate such perspectives, particularly through the lens of geopolitical theories.

As a case study, the course will focus on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, given its ongoing and globally significant political challenges.
